A key long term method of eradicating rabies in the future is to educate school children on Bite prevention and responsible pet ownership.  Blue Paw Trust has identified this and is conducting a school education program that will not only help to eradicate Rabies (a common health issue) but also allow humans and animals to interact in harmony.

Why is it important?

  • Most school children under the age of 15 years are the main victims of dog bites.
  • Children take to education in fun methods far easier than adults.
  • Proper education on Rabies and its effects and  bite prevention education is required.
  • It is also a method to educate children to be better pet owners and be kind towards animals.

The School Education Process

Step 1

  • Select the school and grades.
  • Evaluate the students awareness on Rabies, based on knowledge, if bitten etc (Survey is conducted)
  • Evaluate the students’ attitude towards Animal welfare

Step 2

  • Based on the results from Step 1, the education program is designed.  For example, the puppet show for the students below Grade 5, and power point presentation to the students above Grade 5.

Step 3

  • The designed programs are conducted in selected schools and grades.

Step 4

  • The same schools are visited in 1 month, and in 3 months to evaluate the effectiveness.  These are gathered in the form of questionnaires.

Step 5

  • A year later the dog bites within the same school is evaluated and compared based on the initial data. (Step 1)
  • Two years after the initial data was collected on dog bites another evaluation is done to compare if the number of bites have reduced in the same school or class. Ideally it should show a reduction in numbers.
